Kiana Shafiei
KIANA SHAFIEI is an accomplished pianist, musicologist and speaker whose performances and presentation activities have taken her to various concert venues and institutions in the UK and overseas. She is currently undertaking a PhD degree in Music Performance at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester under the supervision of British composer David Horne and Australian pianist Stephen Savage.
Kiana has performed in many venues across the United Kingdom and Europe including Scotland, Italy, Austria, Portugal and Middle-East. She has also worked with world-renowned pianists such as Pascal Rogé, Michel Béroff, Philippe Cassard, Boris Berman, Paul Badura-Skoda, Andrew Zolinsky, Andrew Ball, Julian Jacobson, Ian Jones and others through master classes and festivals.
As a speaker, Kiana has given several talks and lecture-recitals in 2015 on her research work at several institutions including Cambridge University for the biennal conference “Symposia Iranica”, the Royal College of Music for the “Conservatoires UK Research Forum” and the “Nava Music Festival”, the Royal Northern College of Music’s “Research Forum” and at the Tbilisi State Conservatoire for the International Musicological Conference. In December Kiana gave a talk and performance for TEDxTehran.
She is the recipient of several piano competition awards including the Royal College of Music Concerto Competition Distinction award, the 1st Prize of the 12th Luigi Zanuccoli International Competition in Italy, three 1st Prizes of Fajr Music Festival in Iran, and others. In 2015 she was part of the jury panel for the Enkor International Piano Competition in Germany.
Kiana obtained her Master degree in Piano Performance in 2014 at the Royal College of Music in London where she studied piano with John Byrne. In 2012 she received her Bachelor of Arts degree with First Class Honours from Tehran University, faculty of Fine Arts, under the guidance of professor Raphael Minaskanian. Her piano studies began at the age of six with professor Gagik Babayan and later on with Peyman Yazdanian.
